L’aumento del numero delle squadre europee e le motivazioni che portano le persone a fondare una squadra nella propria città ci hanno incoraggiato. Abbiamo anche discusso su cosa impedisca la crescita di molte di queste squadre, e abbiamo identificato diversi problemi comuni.
Alcuni problemi sono di secondo piano, per esempio la possibilità di acquistare attrezzature per il football o spiegare il valore di questo sport agli sponsor. Per dare una mano a risolvere questo tipo di problemi abbiamo pubblicato diversi articoli sul nostro sito. Tuttavia alcuni problemi sono di primaria importanza, in particolare la stabilità finanziaria e la possibilità di utilizzare impianti sportivi di qualità. In molte città, piccole o grandi che siano, le squadre di football non competono solamente con i propri avversari, ma anche con le squadre sportive della propria zona. Come noi, queste squadre lottano per avere accesso a campi d’allenamento e da partita di qualità, ed è un loro diritto. La differenza è che queste squadre sono seguite da più tempo o praticano uno sport più radicato (calcio, rugby, atletica, hockey su prato, ecc.). In molti paesi il football è ancora in via di sviluppo, e per questo motivo ha bisogno di più tempo per diventare uno sport, un’attività economica e un tipo di divertimento di successo. È difficile crederci, ma ci sono voluti 125 anni prima che il football diventasse lo sport più popolare negli Stati Uniti, il suo paese d’origine. Tutto parte dall’alto. Letteralmente. Il presidente deve concepire e condividere un’idea con i il resto dei dirigenti. A quel punto, si deve costruire un coaching staff che capisca e segua quell’idea. Il coaching staff deve sviluppare una strategia organizzata per l’attacco, la difesa e gli special team, e poi trovare un modo efficace per insegnarla ai giocatori, insieme alle tecniche fondamentali. Il coaching staff deve inoltre esigere costanza e impegno dai propri giocatori: o ci si dedica alla squadra al 100%, o non se ne può far parte. È importante stabilire questo punto il prima possibile, e se non è stato fatto bisogna farlo ora. È meglio avere 30 giocatori che si dedicano al 100%, piuttosto che avere 70 giocatori che si dedicano al 50%. Se sarete troppo indulgenti, avrete giocatori che non conoscono gli schemi, in scarsa condizione fisica e, nella peggiore delle ipotesi, degli infortuni. Fate in modo che questo non diventi un problema.
In aggiunta, dovete chiedervi se state costruendo la squadra più talentuosa che potete. Avete i migliori allenatori e giocatori che il vostro budget vi permette? Se avete una squadra forte, disciplinata, avrete più possibilità di attirare tifosi e sponsor, il che renderà più facile dialogare con i gestori degli impianti sportivi e con le amministrazioni locali per dimostrare loro che meritate un aiuto economico locale, l’utilizzo di un migliore impianto sportivo, e/o degli orari più comodi per gli allenamenti e le partite.
