The Italian National team hung on to beat Serbia on Sunday by a score of 17-14 in the European Championship qualifiers. The Italian team weathered the Serbians’ 14 point fourth quarter to claim the tournament title.
In two games behind center for Italy, Luke Zahradka completed nearly 70% of his passes (39/56) for 487 yards, 5 touchdowns, and only one interception. This stellar performance earned Zahradka the European Championship Qualifying tournament MVP.
“This tournament was a great experience for me getting to represent Italy and getting to win in front of the home crowd,” said Zahradka. “Our defense really showed up and made huge stops when we needed them. It was a great team effort in both games to get these wins and qualify for the next round.”
Zahradka and the Italian National Team will continue their championship aspirations next year as they take on Denmark for the right to go to the European Championship tournament.
